The Manson E-Bass

The Manson E-Bass is one of the most storied instruments to come out of the Devon workshop — a design born in the early days of Manson's Guitar Shop and carried onto some of the biggest stages in the world.

Where it began

When Adrian Ashton asked Hugh Manson to build his third bass, the result was the E-Bass design. It caught the attention of a customer with some pedigree: John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. Manson went on to build John an 8-string version for the Diamanda Galás tour, and the association grew from there.

Led Zeppelin, Them Crooked Vultures, solo artist, producer — John Paul Jones truly deserves the title of legend. As well as the official Manson E-Bass John Paul Jones Signature, John owns a huge collection of Manson custom instruments including 4-, 5-, 8-, 10- and 12-string basses, bass mandolin, triple neck and a MIDI-controlled bass lap steel.

The Manson E-Bass John Paul Jones Signature was offered in flame and quilt tops, in finishes including Gloss Vintage Sunburst and Trans Satin Black Burst, alongside production E-Bass models in Dry Satin Black and Night Sky Black.
